Andrea Kwan MSW, RSW: Grief Counsellor and Educator

Andrea KwanI am a grief counsellor, educator, and registered Social Worker who supports individuals coping with grief and loss (as a result of death and non-death losses). I specialise in supporting those who have experienced sudden and/or traumatic loss. I also provide education about grief and loss, and how to work with grieving individuals and communities from an Anti-Oppressive and Diversity lens.

I graduated from the University of Toronto with a Master of Social Work degree and am registered with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW, #820777). I have also received training and support from staff and volunteers at Bereaved Families of Ontario-Toronto and the AIDS Bereavement and Resiliency Program of Ontario. I have experience providing both individual and group support to grieving children, youth, and adults.
It is my goal to provide a safe and supportive environment for you to explore and express your grief, in ways that make sense for you, at your own pace. My compassionate presence and holistic approach will encourage you to examine all the ways that grief is affecting your life and well-being, to tap into your inner resources and strengths.  I will support you in the integration of loss into your life, using multiple therapeutic modalities including Narrative Therapy, Mindfulness and Walking Therapy.  I work from a trauma-informed, intersectional, Feminist, Anti-Racist, Anti-Oppressive and LGBTQ Positive framework.
I have experienced multiple personal losses; the most significant being the deaths of my parents in the Indian Ocean Tsunami when I was 19 years old. Through my own healing process, I have found my way to walking alongside others in their grief. I am committed to creating safe and inclusive spaces where bereaved individuals can grieve authentically and holistically.
